Digging deeper

In fall 2016, when there was talk of the upcoming closure of the OKD mine is Paskov, we offered the miners a chance to retrain and become programmers. We created and financed a multi-level training program with the help of Czechitas and the Technical University of Ostrava. 29 miners enrolled in the first level, seven of whom went on to take university entrance exams, and four managed to graduate! Three of the former miners started working as programmers within a year of leaving the mine and are still in the field today. The goal of the program was to show both people, and especially employers, that such a dramatic career change is possible, no matter how old you are.
