Slovenia and Croatia are among the most desirable destinations for work among workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the latest research by MojPosao.ba. Better salaries, living, and working conditions are key motivators that attract workers to seek opportunities in the neighboring countries.
Motivation for working in the region
The research revealed that respondents are most interested in working in the sectors of hospitality, IT, construction, medicine, transportation, and logistics. In these sectors, there is a higher demand for certain professions, which are considered most sought-after or in deficit for specific industries this year. The main reasons for seeking employment outside Bosnia and Herzegovina but within the region include professional development, better working conditions, and social security. Bosnian-Herzegovinian workers are looking for competitive salaries, job security, and opportunities for professional advancement from potential employers in the neighboring countries.
Willingness for long-term work
According to the research results, the majority of respondents are willing to work permanently in neighboring countries, while many are unsure if they would ever return to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most respondents expect a minimum netto salary ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 euros. These expectations align with their desire for better living and working conditions.
About the research
The research is based on a survey of 2,432 respondents from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The majority of respondents are between the ages of 26 and 35 (39%), followed by those aged 36 to 45 (34%). Half of the respondents are highly educated, and according to employment status, 74% are currently employed. The ultimate goal of this research was to understand the motivations and preferences of workers from Bosnia and Herzegovina to identify key factors driving their search for employment in neighboring countries and to provide information that will help employers in the region attract and retain talented workers.
The data clearly shows that better salaries and working conditions are attracting highly educated workers from BiH to Croatia and Slovenia, making these countries the most desirable destinations for work within the region.
It remains to be seen how these trends will develop in the future, but one thing is certain—workers from BiH are actively seeking opportunities that will offer them a better standard of living and professional advancement within the neighboring countries.
